AVOCADO A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

What would happen to your body if you eat avocado every day? Can excess eating of avocado harm your health and body? Nutritionists say it does not harm neither your health nor body to do so since avocado has plenty of nutritional and health benefits. However, people with hyperpotassemia are advised against eating avocado daily because of its high content of potassium.

In truth, your body and health will greatly be improved by the rich minerals and nutrients found in avocadoes. These rich minerals and nutrients helps to lower blood sugar, improve eyesight, cut body weight, improve kidney and liver functions, regulate cholesterol levels, and many more.

Avocado the Fruit

Majority of us are inclined to think that avocado is a vegetable because of its consumption in numerous diets. However, it is a tropical fruit and just to be specific, it is a typical berry only that it is large and has a seed. It is widely believed that avocado originated from central and south America. The word ‘avocado’ was derived from its Spanish name aguacate, which comes from the native Nahuatl language spoken by Aztecs, meaning ‘testicle’ probably because of the likeness between the fruit and the body part.

Major Health Benefits

Now, let us explore major health benefits of avocado and understand the reason why it should be eaten every day.

Lowers blood sugar level

Unlike other sources of carbohydrates, avocado contains good starch that acts to slow down the absorption of sugar into the blood. Thus, gives the pancreas time to produce enough insulin to regulate the sugar in the food. This is extremely helpful in managing diabetes.

Regulates Cholesterol Level

Most delicious diets have a substantial level of bad fat and as much as we try to avoid eating these diets daily, the temptation proves hard to fight. This usually leads to LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol building in the body posing great health risk especially to the heart. LDL cholesterol builds up fatty plaques on the sides of blood arteries causing the arteries to narrow. Contrary, HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol, which is contained in avocado, does not build fatty plaques as it effectively transport excess fat to the liver where it is broken down by the bile.

Helps Kidneys work more efficiently

As earlier mentioned, avocado has high content of potassium which is a valuable mineral for the body in helping to keep a healthy fluid balance through chemical channels for cells and organs. A good fluid balance in the body allows the kidney to function better.

Promotes Liver health

Liver is one of the most crucial organ in the body and it is important for it to stay healthy. In order to remain healthy, the liver needs glutathione which is an anti-oxidant that helps to filter harmful substances to prevent damages. Avocado helps the body to synthesis glutathione for the liver.

Boosts eye sight

Lutein and zeaxanthin are anti-oxidants that help to reduce the development of cataracts, slow down degeneration of the muscles and nerves of the eyes, and thus improving general eye vision. These anti-oxidants are found in avocado.

Jack of all trades in the fruit world

Aside from the benefits mentioned above, avocado has many more great benefits to both your health and body. It is the Jack of all trades but a master of none.
Definitely, it shall keep the doctor away.
